I think reading my posts will tell you more about me than me trying to tell you about me. However, that is very vague, so I will say a bit about what I like to do, what I dream of doing and what I spend my time doing.
So, I like to make things – all kinds of things. I like sewing, crocheting, and making dolls. I get inspired when Christmas is approaching, thinking of things to make for family and friends. I like to ride horses, and putts around building stuff, like rockways, chicken houses, rat traps, sleds and whatever I might need or think up. My husband, Al, would say I use my Macgyver skills.
Most of the time things work out ok, other times it’s back to the drawing board. Like the time I built a sled from a pallet. It was simple. I rounded off the bottom of the front 2 x 4s and placed a sheet of plywood over the the top. In no time I was ready to hook a rope up to it, and then one of our ponies. What a great idea! With sleigh bells and snow about a foot deep, I loaded the girls, my two daughters ages 4 & 5, on to the sled. I had a hold of the bridle ready to lead the horse and took one step forward… the bells chimed, his eyes got big as saucers, and he spooked. Off he went like a shot, pulling away from me. Away I ran after him.
Fortunately it was a big open field, and in his flurry, and the deep snow draggin this heavy sled, he tired quickly and paused momentarily when he stepped in a depression. Just my chance! I grabbed the girls one at a time by the collar of their coats and tossed them behind me into the snow. He stood their shaking like a leaf – “Good boy, it’s ok,” I assured him, as I unhooked the harness.
Dumb luck on my side! What was I thinking? It was one of those times it didn’t occur to me that this was “NOT” the horse trained to pull – it was the other pony. Well, no harm done. Kids were fine and horse no worse for the wear.
I have to laugh a bit thinking about another mishap with a goat I was training, or attempting to train to pull a cart. But I’ll save that for another post – maybe I’ll create another page for funny stories.
Did I mention I like to write? You may have figured that out by now. I’ve written some pretty good poems, a lot of personal narratives and some really awesome personal interest stories for the senior magazine, Looking Ahead, I used to publish. I also have a couple short kid stories, like for magazines and some picture books with very crude illustrations. Haven’t had any of those published yet.
Anyway, I probably spend more time than anything else writing in my journal and typing emails and private message conversations with people. It’s a good thing I took typing in high school. That was back in the day before electric typewriters. With the old mannual dinosaurs I could type 70 wpm. I’m a bit slower now, but can keep up with a slow conversation.
Well, I have to back up a bit. Thinking about it, I have to add that journaling time is sort of up there with the time I spend conversing with God and studying the Word. They go hand in hand. God is my favorite fan and constant companion, well, except my husband, Al. We’ve been married 14 years now, and he still really adores me, although I can’t, for the life of me figure out why. I’m just so fortunate and glad that he does.
Also, I will say that most people who get to know me think I was born in the wrong century. That’s because I used to live off the grid with no power or water, and I loved it. I dream of building another primitive log cabin in the back woods to live in when I retire. I enjoy wearing old fashion dresses, (and I’m always wearing bloomers under my dresses in the winter). Check out my photo album for a glimpse.
